The Siam Cup, sponsored by Ipes takes place in Jersey tomorrow, Saturday 2 May.
A high profile fan of Jersey Rugby Club will be VIP guest at the club’s final game of the season as Guernsey take on Jersey in the annual clash.
Superman actor Henry Cavill will be at St Peter in his role as an Ambassador for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, which is the focus of a major fundraising day coinciding with the Ipes Siam Cup.
Henry was announced as Durrell’s first Ambassador last August, stepping up to underline his personal enthusiasm for conservation by agreeing to support the work of Durrell on his home island and globally. He will be involved in a busy day that will include charity auctions for items such as exclusive tours of the Durrell Wildlife Park, signed prints and rare merchandise, a bucket collection and a chance to meet supporters.
The Siam Cup’s history dates back to 1920 and the trophy is competed for annually as the finale to the rugby season in the Channel Islands. The day will feature four matches - three men’s matches – 1st team, 2nd team, and Veterans – and the Ladies Siam.
Last year Ipes signed a four year pan-island deal to sponsor the Siam Cup. This is the second year of the deal and the first year in Jersey.
Ipes Jersey’s Managing Director, Nigel Strachan commented on the event saying, "Rugby is a great sport for us to be involved with as its core values of respect, team work, discipline and sportsmanship mirror our own professional values within Ipes. We are looking forward to the build up to the game and watching some great rugby.
Admission to the Ipes Siam Cup is £10 for adults and tickets are available from the Jersey Rugby in St Peter. Under 18s will be admitted free. If you are a Jersey Rugby Club member admission is £5.
