This year's World Aid Walk sponsored by Ipes has been hailed a great success after seeing record numbers of walkers take to the road and raise more than £20,000 for charity.
It is the 13th year the company has sponsored the event in Guernsey which is now in its 43rd year.
Action Aid, Christian Aid, Hope for a Child, Save the Children, Oxfam and The Tumaini Fund will all benefit from the funds raised by walkers. Each charity has its own projects earmarked that the funds from the walk will go towards.
This year saw the introduction of a new route which took walkers through the High Street past Ipes’ offices and along the front into the Vale and onto the West Coast before returning to St Peter Port up the Rohais. The new route proved a success seeing almost 1000 walkers return home safely.
Ipes provided water and refreshments outside its office in Royal Plaza and Michel Davy Ipes Guernsey’s Managing Director says, “The World Aid Walk is a great community event and we are pleased it was once again a success. It is fantastic that we can support an event that provides a great day out whilst also helping to raise money for causes in the third world.”
Bella Farrell Chair of the World Aid Walk says, “We are delighted to once again have Ipes’ support which enables all the money raised by walkers to go directly to the charities the event supports. These charities work in some of the World’s poorest communities helping to eradicate poverty.”
