Channel Islands Lawn Tennis Association once again thanks Ipes for supporting its Local Junior Tennis Programme

The Ipes Guernsey Junior Closed Tennis Tournament 2009 took place this week at La Mare Tennis Club, thanks in large part to the generous backing of local private equity fund administrator, Ipes.

The annual junior tournament is just one of a series of events being coordinated through the Guernsey Junior Tennis Programme, an initiative run by the Channel Islands Lawn Tennis Association. This month marks the fourth consecutive year that Ipes Group have pledged sponsorship for the programme, and this year they are delighted to be sharing the honours with their former Chairman, Connie Helyar.

Speaking of the both contributions Di Hudson, Treasurer of the CI Lawn Tennis Association said: “We are tremendously grateful to both Ipes and Connie for their continued sponsorship of the junior programme. It is attracting more and more entrants each year, and these generous contributions allow us to harness this wider enthusiasm for the sport and, equally, encourage our island’s budding young talent, particularly through the opportunities for competitions both on and off the island.”

Around 40 eager young tennis players descended on the La Mare Tennis Club to battle it out over the five-day event, which incorporated categories ranging from under 8s to under 18s.

Kevin Brennan, Chief Executive of Ipes said: “Events like this make it such a joy to sponsor the junior programme. Our thanks go out to the CILTA, in particular Jo Robinson and her team, for running such an excellent scheme.”

“These initiatives mean that children are able to adopt a terrific sport, one that will hopefully become their life-long hobby. Just as important, it provides an extra opportunity for children to learn those invaluable life-skills that come with a competitive sport, which is great for the local community. These values really underpin our sense of responsibility here at Ipes.”

In addition to the junior tennis initiative, Ipes invests in a number of local initiatives, which sit within a broad-ranging community-based programme.
